Netflix and Paint

I am excited about starting my illustration classes next month.
So excited that I bought the textbooks and requested art supplies from a reliable source.
My partner attended the Academy of Art in San Francisco and earned a BA in Fine Arts, specifically in oil painting. Do I need brushes? Check! Do I need paint? Check! Do I need reference books? Check!
I’ve been playing on Procreate and Adobe Fresco for the past few weeks.
I’m playing with watercolor tube paints and watching Netflix.

I watched videos and read about using complementary colors as shadows. I love the movement of watercolor paint, swirls of color moving without a schedule or a care in the world. I was obviously inspired by the grapes on the coffee table.
I’m trying not to be obsessed with quails, the California State Bird. I wanted to see how the watercolors blended together when dry and when wet. I will likely go back with a marker to bring out details. Or I may cut out these little birds to create a collage.
Here are studies of gouache paint. I watched videos of mixing with water to get different viscosities of the medium.
I look already look forward to painting tomorrow!
